Regents Award for Child of Veteran:
Eligibility: Children of veterans who are deceased, 40% or more disabled, former
POW or MIA as a result of service during certain specified conflicts. Candidates must be a
legal NY resident at the time of application and parent must have been a legal NY resident
at the time of induction, death or disability.
Benefits: $450 per year to all eligible candidates up to five years depending on normal
length of undergraduate program.

Persian Gulf Veterans Tuition Awards
Eligibility:
- Have served in the U.S. Armed Forces in the hostilities that occurred in the Persian
Gulf from August 2, 1990, to the end of such hostilities as evidenced by receipt of the
Southwest Asia Service Medal which was awarded from August 2, 1990, to November 30, 1995.
- Have established eligibility by applying to HESC on or before September 1, 2000.
- Be New York State residents.
- Have been discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces under other than dishonorable
conditions.
- Be matriculated full or part time at an undergraduate or graduate degree-granting
institution in New York State or in an approved vocational training program in New York
State.
- Have applied for a Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) award if full-time.
- Have applied for a federal Pell Grant award for full-time or part-time undergraduate
study, or enrollment in a vocational training program.
Benefits: Persian Gulf Veterans Tuition Awards (PGVTA) provide up to $1,000 per
semester for full-time study or $500 per semester for part-time study to Persian Gulf
veterans matriculated at an undergraduate or graduate degree-granting institution or in an
approved vocational training program in New York State.

Vietnam Veterans Tuition Awards
Eligibility:
- Have served in the U.S. Armed Forces in Indochina between December 22, 1961 and May 7,
1975.
- Have established eligibility by applying to HESC on or before September 1, 2000.
- Be New York State residents.
- Have been discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces under other than dishonorable
conditions.
- Be matriculated full or part time at an undergraduate or graduate degree-granting
institution in New York State or in an approved vocational training program in New York
State.
- Have applied for the Tuition Assistance Program and Federal Pell Grant awards for
full-time study, or for a Federal Pell Grant award for part-time undergraduate study, or
enrollment in a vocational training program.
Benefits: Vietnam Veterans Tuition Awards (VVTA) provide up to $1,000 per semester for
full-time
study or $500 per semester for part-time study to Vietnam veterans matriculated at an
undergraduate or graduate degree-granting institution or in an approved vocational
training program in New York State.

Pennsylvania
Qualified veterans of the US Armed Forces are eligible for
consideration for state grants while part or full time undergraduate students. Veterans
must comply with PAs residency (domicile) requirements and other PHEAA eligibility
requirements. Dependent member children or former members of the U.S. Armed Forces who
served on active duty after 1/31/55 or who are or have been POW, or are or have been
listed as MIA and who were PA residents for at least 12 months preceding service on active
duty are eligible for undergraduate state grants.
Benefits: Grants to cover full time study not to exceed, per academic year, 80% of
tuition and fee charges at the institution of higher education at which the applicant is
enrolled, or $2632 ($800 at out of state schools) whichever is lesser (amounts may change)

Eligibility: Children (age 16-23, five year PA residence) of eligibility 100%
service-connected disabled or deceased veterans in war or armed conflict-connected
disabilities. Must attend a PA state system college or university, PA state-aided
educational or training institution of secondary or college grade, business school, trade
school, hospital school of nurse training, or training in beauty culture, art, radio,
undertaking or any other approved training. The school must be in PA.
Benefits: Up to $500 per term or semester, not to exceed four scholastic years, for
tuition, board, room-rent, books and supplies.
